The Santa Maria Philharmonic Orchestra begins its 2022-23 season with a festival of fiery passions and transformative figures that together typify the Romantic era. Ludwig van Beethoven’s Egmont Overture expresses the triumphant struggle and sacrifice against imperial oppression, putting to music sentiments that would shape a century. The Enigma Variations, by late-Romantic British composer Edward Elgar, explore the most intimate and individual interactions of friendship and love. Violin soloist Roger Wilkie will join Maestro Michael Nowak and orchestra for Felix Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor, a cornerstone of both violin literature and 19th Century art music.
Program:
Elgar Enigma Variations
Beethoven Egmont Overture
Mendelssohn Violin Concerto in E minor
Roger Wilkie, violin
