PEACE AND TRANQUILITY: Pastoral Landscapes – Jacob Braun, Cello

February 26 @ 7:30 pm

This concert begins in Italy with a composer famous for his appetite-whetting overtures, Giacomo Rossini, and then moves to Germany with Haydn at the summit of his compositional powers in his famous London Symphony. Next, we move to Czechoslovakia and the lavish melodic lines of Antonin Dvorak’s Silent Woods for solo cello and orchestra. Southern California virtuoso, Jacob Braun, will be featured in this work and then close the program with one of the most beloved pieces of the cello repertoire – Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations.

Complete Program

Rossini: Tancredi Overture

Haydn: Symphony No. 104 “London”

Dvorak: From the Bohemian Forest, No. 5 “Silent Woods”

Tchaikovsky: Variations on a Rococo Theme

Jacob Braun, Cello
