Viennese Tradition: Mozart and Brahms

April 29, 2023 @ 7:30 pm

The Santa Maria Philharmonic Orchestra and Maestro Michael Nowak close the 2022/2023 season with a concert immortalizing two titans of classical music: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Johannes Brahms. Both Mozart and Brahms dwelled in Vienna, Austria during the 18th and 19th centuries, respectively, and came to serve as icons of the “Viennese School” of music. Brahms’ Symphony No. 3 is said to depict the Rhine River with a flowing, dynamic melodic structure that gives homage both to predecessors like Beethoven along with Brahms’ contemporary and rival, Richard Wagner. Joining the orchestra and Maestro Nowak for a performance of Mozart’s masterful Piano Concerto K. 488 is Santa Maria’s own Suri Kim, the prodigious 14-year-old pianist and winner of several competitions and accolades.
